What's In a Name When Writing
I read a cool article on something I’m going to spend more time on, the name of my characters. The author J.P.C. Allen wrote in a blog entry cool thoughts regarding the creation of names. For my future Christian Fantasy writing projects, I’m thinking with what was noted, when I use a name it’ll become part of the story’s culture - many could have a specific meaning. A crafted name can represent, “joy of joy”, or if the mother dies in childbirth, the child’s name can be the cultural equivalence to “father’s sorrow to joy.” Then there’s the unique name for “born under the summer’s full moon” for example if the culture is nature aware. These are just some random thoughts of what could be done to add depth and dimension to characters.
